Description
Nine Rivers is a turn-based wuxia RPG about an apprentice who inherits a dead master’s secrets — and the nine martial schools who want them. Travel the nine rivers of the jianghu, learn each school’s art, and break their stance.
Built around a stance-breaking battle system and hand-placed pixel sprites inside lit 3D dioramas, Nine Rivers is the first game by Chen Yu, a QA engineer in Chengdu who has made it alone, at night, since August 2025.
Features
- Nine rivers, nine masters. Every river is a chapter, a region and a school. Train under its master, learn their forms, and decide whether to inherit their art or surpass it.
- Break their stance. Every foe fights in a stance. Read it, strike the forms it can’t guard, and when it breaks they lose their turn — and you get to write the next one.
- A world painted in pixels and ink. Hand-placed pixel sprites inside lit, three-dimensional dioramas: ink-wash skies, drifting mist, rain on lantern light, depth you can almost step into.
- Stories told over tea. Every river town has an inn, every inn has a storyteller, and every story is a rumour you can follow. Twenty-seven side tales, written at night.
History
Chen started Nine Rivers in August 2025 after years of testing other studios’ games. The first public build went to 23 playtesters in September 2026. A Steam Next Fest demo and store page are planned before Early Access in 2027.
Early Access
The first four rivers, about fifteen hours of story, with all nine planned for 1.0.
